Ebere has not spoken to her mother in 13 years. When her husband leaves for work days after she gives birth, she has no choice but to call her. What follows is a collision of omugwo traditions, postpartum exhaustion, and rage that has nowhere else to go. Then a sickle cell diagnosis forces both women to confront what they have been avoiding: why her mother really left, and whether a daughter can forgive something she finally understands.
